Enola Holmes 2 (2022)

Enola Holmes 2 is the sequel to Enola Holmes, based on the novels for young adults by Nancy Springer. It is directed by Harry Bradbeer, starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill in the role as her notorious brother, Sherlock Holmes.

We really enjoyed the first installment, happily this sequel did not let us down either.

Now a detective-for-hire like her infamous brother, Enola Holmes takes on her first official case to find a missing girl, as the sparks of a dangerous conspiracy ignite a mystery that requires the help of friends — and Sherlock himself — to unravel.

Movie Review

“Charmingly” similar to the prequel, which so reminded us of movies from back in the day, with adventures told at a vertiginous tempo and that refrains from losing itself in exhausting intimate dialogues.

‘Enola Holmes 2’ qualifies (almost) as an action movie due to its tempo, being much closer to Guy Richie‘s Sherlock than it is to the original novel. Sherlock’s sister is a modernized, decontextualized (yes) version. It is massively entertaining as a feature film, and having already impressed us with the first installment we are pleased with this sequel that has a grander plot but keeps the same characters. It does not disappoint, and applies the same spiffy machinations and gimmicks that are applied in the action classics, though set in Victorian London.

Enola’s addressing the audience to give the spectators insight into the context of events, is very effectively employed in this movie. Milli Bobby Brown‘s lively delivery of her lines adds to the amusement.

This is a blockbuster of a period piece that lives up to the expectations. Truly entertaining, funny for the most part, and upbeat.

Will it leave a mark? Not really. It is sheer entertainment at its best.
