'97 Minutes' (2023) Movie Review

Directed by Timo Vuorensola and starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alec Baldwin, “97 Minutes” raises a difficult moral dilemma: is it worth sacrificing an entire plane of innocent people to save the lives of thousands? The movie takes us on an entertaining ride of action, suspense, and tension aboard a 767.

Original? Not really, but it’s a decent watch for a lazy afternoon and easily forgettable the next day.

Storyline

A hijacked 767 will crash in just 97 minutes when it runs out of fuel. Against the strong will of Toyin, the NSA’s deputy, Director Hawkins prepares to shoot down the plane before it causes catastrophic damage on the ground, leaving the fate of the innocent passengers in the hands of Tyler, one of the supposed hijackers on board, who is an undercover Interpol agent. . or is he?

Movie Review

“97 Minutes” is one of those movies that, without anything bad, also lacks those virtues that make it stand out from the rest, that special something that makes us remember it. It relies on pacing, suspense, and tension, although the hijacking theme plays out “as usual” with the same old arguments and characters that seem doomed to appear in movie after movie, hijacking a plane to threaten with exactly the same thing.

Hollywood once again plays with collective terror and cultural unconsciousness and bases the movie on what they know works. The actors are good, but they have a more minor role in their careers in a script that doesn’t seem to want to stand out for its originality or to show a more thoughtful Hollywood than a practical one.

“97 Minutes” is practical in every aspect, from the script construction to the scene resolution, with professional editing and many sound ups and downs, using classic action-thriller tricks in a production that doesn’t seem destined to break worldwide box office records.
