Bandit is a Canadian movie starring Josh Duhamel, Elisha Cuthbert and Mel Gibson. It is directed by Allan Ungar and the story is based on the novel by Robert Knuckle.
Here we have a melange of comedy and thriller that lacks a bit in both genres, but it is nevertheless entertaining for a Friday eve in order to disconnect from the hectic week.
The action scenes in the movie are more amusing than they are impacting.
Premise
After escaping a Michigan prison, a charming career criminal assumes a new identity in Canada and goes on to rob a record 59 banks and jewellery stores while being hunted by a rogue task force. Based on the story of The Flying Bandit.
Review
This is a movie that counts on the appearance of a star, in a movie very much in tune with the 80’s productions, when said star was at his best. Gibson’s latest roles have sought refuge in thrillers that are more or less interesting, but movies that have not become blockbusting marvels.
Well, Bandit is more of the same, although it does have a humorous take brought about by Josh Duhamel, who so well knows how to add comedy to anything, in this case a thriller, which is actually well produced. It is made to entertain, with technical quality.
It is not very imaginative as a story, but it is sufficiently retro for us to watch it with tender nostalgia. And we accept that not all movies have to be grandiose and spectacular.
Our Opinion
It is a good movie however, it does not transcend being yet another product with a retro touch. It is in no way a pretentious movie. That said, it is well filmed and it has that polished technical quality of a movie which has solid production behind.
