Movie Review
Are we looking at a Christmas romcom that is formulaic and an easy venture for the production company? If that is what you expect, well then our mission as critics specialized in romcoms (irony), is quite in vain, and we will be reduced to being nothing but entertainment value arbiters.
‘Falling for Christmas’ is an easy movie, to the nth degree, with elements that have used a myriad times (the social strata theme, where one from the upper class meets the working class, a recurring theme) and full of clichés in its script, with some good (at times not so good)jokes, and thusly we have a comedy that writes itself. Now, if we add to that the appearance of Santa… the feature will not exactly turn out to be “art cinema”.
It is a fun piece, especially, in the first sequences with Lindsay Lohan and her partner acting like a goofy influencer. After that it takes a turn, becoming a traditional romantic comedy, and to top it off with the Christmas theme.
It is movie that is predictable, with performances that are comedic, but not sophisticated.
But, hey. It is Christmas season (yeah, despite being early November – the Xmas marketing campaigns are already rollin’), so unless we are looking at a Tim Burton production, we do not expect much other than a traditional story that follows the conventional structures. Prime example of this is ‘Falling for Christmas’
Our Opinion
It has one distinct quality, which is the return of Lindsay Lohan, who is undeniably a good actress. As for the rest the movie has to offer, well, it is a Christmas feature with all the formulaic sweetness that that implies.
