Fugitive: The Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn is a documentary directed by Lucy Blakstad.
Premise
From his rise as a business mogul to his plummet into international notoriety, this documentary examines the bizarre story of Carlos Ghosn, former CEO of Renault and Nissan.
About the Documentary
At a measured pace, it takes its time leading up to the “why”, introducing us to the person behind this middle-aged man, Carlos Ghosn, who went from saving French Renault to being headhunted to save Japanese Nissan. What happened to him? And how did he end up being incarcerated, and then become fugitive? In this documentary they follow the sequence of events, and shed light on the case, taking their time to look into the motives, rather than the how.
This documentary seeks to immerse the audience in the corporate world (unknown to many) and gives it, very fittingly, a cold tone that is so often considered (true or not) characteristic of anything corporate.
With a multitude of interviews with people who had been around Ghosn, from colleagues, to employees, his speechwriter, and his sister, we are given a wide spectrum of views.
Our Opinion
‘Fugitive: The Curious Case of Carlos Ghosn’ manages to mold the narrative to the story. Do not expect a true crime doc, nor anything spectacular and sensationalist. It is a stone cold story, told in a rather dry and distant manner; on this occasion there is no room for a spectacle.
