Grimcutty is a horror movie written and directed by John Ross, starring Sara Wolfkind, Shannyn Sossamon and Usman Ally.
Premise
Grimcutty is an urban legend based on an internet meme: when someone receives a message with a meme and Grimcutty’s horrifying face appears, terrifying things happen. A suburban teen girl and her little brother must stop a terrifying internet meme brought to life by the hysteria of their parents.
About the Movie
‘Grimcutty’ comes about as an urban legend amongst youngsters who are addicted to their cellphones; its target audience is clearly the young adult, and it is written for them and has all the required ingredients of teenage horror movie in all its formulaic splendor, without elaborating much on the script, and well, the final product is as it is…. A movie full of clichés and that is fast-food for the viewers: it is not bad, however it is does not strive to go beyond merely being entertaining in its formula.
‘Grimcutty’ does not part from particularly good idea, but from an anecdote that in some way or other simply requires filling inn the gaps with characters to have a slasher, horror story.
Last but not least, and I do believe this important in horror movie, the monstrous ‘Grimcutty’ is neither as monstrous as anticipated, nor are the special effects applied as impactful expected, at least not enough to remain in one’s mind for long after having seen this production.
Our Opinion
A horror movie that conforms with the cliché of teenage horror and does not strive to go beyond that.
It in no way inspires, and it has the further huge setback of being forgettable, which is not a good trait in a horror movie.
