“Leo” is a movie produced by Happy Madison Productions, which, as you may already know, is Adam Sandler‘s production company.
“Leo” embodies Sandler’s peculiar sense of humor, this time in a movie specifically designed for young ones, starring Leo, a 74-year-old talking lizard.
And if you haven’t guessed it already, it’s Adam Sandler himself who lends his voice to the lizard.
Movie Review
“Leo” is one of those movies that have been created and designed with a clear purpose: to appeal to everyone. It is a product that aims to be enjoyable for all, easy to watch, and that, with a careful balance of humor, sentimentality, and catchy songs, will please the audience throughout the film’s hour and a half duration.
However, beyond that, it is forgettable because “Leo” is so classic and relies on so many pre-designed formulas that, in a way, it is born as a movie almost without soul, simply a fun entertainment that is easily forgotten as soon as it ends. It has a good pace, outstanding animation, and the jokes are sufficiently funny to keep us engaged, but the movie fails to go beyond a series of entertaining scenes.
The lizard, endearing and adorable, and we can almost see Sandler behind its bulging eyes. Around him, and as if in a live-action movie, all other characters revolve, dancing to the tune of this lizard who, being delightful and charming to the core, has enough substance to make “Leo” a good animated film.
Good, but not remarkable or outstanding, because the script is so focused on fulfilling the jokes and formula that, ultimately, it does not aim to tell any story beyond that.
Our Opinion
Another fine product with the Happy Madison seal that will not win any awards but is perfect as simple, entertaining, and intelligent content.
