Movie Review

The scene is set for a good action thriller. The movie is a thriller that is well produced, the photography, the settings, the sound effects, the camera takes, the close-ups and the screenplay twists and turns will impress the viewers. With great atmospherics, and a story that is well presented and narrated, adding to that the photographic aesthetics that give it all the more appeal.

With that said, the story might seem to some as a typical action movie and is more focused in the action aspect than on the development of its characters. We are not dealing with a Deer Hunter (1978), nor will it lead to reflection and pondering, as it is more of a movie to spend time being entertained, in line with how a Bruce Willis movie would entertain us, although it is notch more intimate.

The premise is good, with its assortment of characters, however, it does not go beyond the premise as both narratively and aesthetically (or if will, literarily) its lacking sway.

It counts on the great performance by Allison Janney, who brings a convincing depiction of what is a rare characterization of a woman in Hollywood action thrillers.

Although being slightly formulaic in structure, it will definitely be to the liking of thriller and action fans alike.

Our Opinion

This is a movie for those who seek a thriller for its entertainment value. Lou is a really good movie, despite being formulaic in structure, and yet with characterizations that are rare in this genre, and are well portrayed, especially in the case of Allison Janney. Note: the movie has a potent start with its initial sequences that promise more than what the movie delivers further along. It is nonetheless an entertaining piece.
