My Father’s Dragon is 2022 animation movie for kids directed by Nora Twomey.
Although the animation is quite simple, if compared to Pixar, it does tell a moving story that will be a joy to many a kid.
Premise
Struggling to cope after a move to the city with his mother, Elmer runs away in search of Wild Island and a young dragon who waits to be rescued. Elmer’s adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.
About ‘My father’s Dragon’
This movie has first and foremost a good premise. It is for children, true, but not exclusively (take a look at the cast and you will understand). It takes off with a family that is in financial dire straits, and the young son escapes to a fantasy world to seek refuge from reality and find a world that is more in tune with him.
It is well directed, and has a good tempo. It is an animation that many a kid will enjoy. It is not impactful visually, as this Irish production seems to distance itself from the high-impact aesthetics of Pixar and others. It is closer to the older style of animation than it is to the video-game high resolution style.
A very intelligent piece, well balanced, and that we are certain many a child will enjoy.
