Peter Pan & Wendy takes up again the most classic Disney in, precisely, its anniversary, with one of its most iconic stories.
This time with the appeal of giving us Jude Law as Captain Hook.
Peter Pan & Wendy is a film directed by David Lowery starring Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson.
About the Movie
A perfect opportunity to revisit a classic and make slight modifications to it? Well, that seems to be the idea of Disney and its screenwriters (the film infobox lists no less than ten people on the team).
Peter Pan & Wendy is everything we saw in the 1953 animated version, what we relived with more magic in Spielberg’s Hook and now we return to it with Jude Law playing the bad guy.
There is nothing wrong with the film, except that we have already seen it and, if you are expecting that “something new”, you are probably going to feel disappointed. On a technical level, we won’t get tired of repeating it, Disney is always a feast for the senses: production, actors, sets… everything taken care of to perfection, everything so professional that it’s scary. On a creative level, and overall when they put on the mask of classicism, it’s a whole different story. Do not expect any novelty, it is a film created to remember the classics and exploit our nostalgia. An occasion for daddies and mommies who want to teach their children good criteria and share with them the icons of their childhood.
It has rhythm, it’s fantastic regarding special effects, sound and editing… At a creative level, it is too much of a remake and it will eventually fizzle, or even be forgotten, as many others of the company. Although disappointing for the specialized critics, it will “work”, especially at the level of streaming.
Disney knows how to do its job very well, especially when it gets down to what has made it a giant in the industry and has kept it afloat for years.
Neither does it come to break with tradition, nor does it come to shock us with a story that will catch our hearts. They’ve already done that before and several times, yet Peter Pan is still a highly recommended coming-of-age fable, especially when it comes wrapped in a movie so well made as this one.
May you enjoy it in the most classic way you can think of.
