The Dead Don´t Die is a movie written and directed by Jim Jarmusch it has an exceptional cast headed by Bill Murray. And, Adam Driver, of course.
So we have seen this funny movie that is intelligent as well. Good lines and lots of irony in The Dead Don´t Die.
Storyline
In the small town of Centerville, the citizens have to face a… plague of living dead. When Earth deviates from its axis… ugly things happen.
The Movie
Jim Jarmusch´s usual irony, with the sardonic touch added by Bill Murray. A movie inside a movie that laughs at itself. It is still just a zombie movie, okay… but this is entertaining and it has its political and social satire.
The movie is an apparent amusement that is rather heavy handed with a much deeper irony. Lots of dark humor (lots and lots). It is funny to see Iggy Pop eating living people and people like… Selena Gomez!
The film laughs at iteslf like Bill Murray seems to do ever since Ghostbusters. Meanwhile we have Danny Glover with (we hope) the same apparel as in Grand Canyon (a very good movie, by the way) and Jim Jarmusch laughing at movies.
We already know Jarmsuch and Murray. They are inseparable friends for many years now. They know how to consider “business” and “art” with the irony they deserve (both), and they know how to make fun of it in a genre that enables great irony and sarcasm.
Someone once said that the zombie genre is deep down a parody or metaphor of our times. However, in the Middle Ages (a dark period of time, we have been told), they had the Plague, here we have the attacks (fake or not) of our brainless friends.
Enjoy it with the irony and wisdom of those who have won and lost many battles and know how to have a good whiskey to celebrate.
Our Opinion
It is quite obvious that this movie is not an epic movie, but it is funny and has good ideas. Good lines a là Fargo.
It is worth watching to have a good time. It does not pretend to be more than that.
