The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is a movie directed by Edward Bazalgettestarring Alexander Dreymon, Mark Rowley and Arnas Fedaravicius.
It is based on the novel by Bernard Cornwell.
As it is becoming usual in well-known series (The Witcher, for example), Netflix gives us this story that, set in The Las Kingdom, will delight the fans who enjoy the series and its great plot.
Historical novels are a hit, and thanks to authors like Bernard Cornwell, the quality of their plots and arguments were assured. Moreover, readers loved them and The Last Kingdom is a great example of this.
After Vikings, this story of Saxons and Vikings was a success in its serial format and now it comes as a two-hour episode that can be watched independently, but that you will enjoy much more if you are fans of the excellent TV series.
Is it the spectacle we were hoping? Probably not and, as my father would say, rather few battles, little action, and lots of dialogues (also Game of Thrones was like that, and nobody complained).
The movie we expected? Yes, but it also tastes like a mere two-hour chapter that, without varying an iota, is limited to meet the requirements of the fans who will find a juicy appendix in this Seven Kings Must Die.
Cinematically: nothing new under the sun, in England or Denmark.
The usual epic in a film that knows what it has to offer and it offers it, limiting itself to fulfill the expectations and without knowing how to distinguish itself from another chapter.
It is, however, closed in its plot and conception.
Appreciable, at least for fans of the series.
