The Matrix is a 1999 sci-fi movie written and directed by Lilly and Lana Wachowski. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss.
Indeed, modern cinema (thirty years later) has also left us gems like this one: The Matrix, a great action film that created a before and after in special effects and, also has a great screenplay, very in tune with the times that were yet to come.
Movie Review
These were not only effects, this film also made an aesthetic statement (those long black leather coats) and was a media reference with the sunglasses and the rest. The “steampunk” style, neo-punk or other variants … (among this and El Cuervo, with the same look). This was a total social reference that trascends films.
On a film level: a total show with a breakneck rhythm and, on top of that, a story to tell. This is the best of the three (now a fourth will be released, and this is why we subtly include this review), is also the best by its directors.
This is 100% cinema, pure show for millions of viewers that also leaves something to think about and pleases older and younger viewers for different reasons. It has several layers of interpretation, can be enjoyed on several levels and is still relevant today. What else can we ask for? A modern classic that merges ideas in the fashion of Dark City (but is more stylish if you like) and becomes a landmark technically and storywise of what would be movies after it (the good kind, we see all sorts of things in between…).
This movie has the great virtue of almagamating modern trends and mixing video-games with music… achieving almost a cultural icon.
Our Opinion
We love it, feel passion for it and above all, have a great time every time we watch it.
How fortunate for you if you haven´t seen it yet! You are in for a blast! One of the best movies of the Nineties.
Four stars and a half.
Plot
Neo lives a double life as a hacker and an employee of a software company. He senses that something is not right, until some strange characters dispel his doubts: the reality he is living is only the product of a computer program.
Movie Reviews
“‘The Matrix’ recycles the premises of ‘Dark City’ and ‘Strange Days,’ turns up the heat and the volume, and borrows the gravity-defying choreography of Hong Kong action movies. It’s fun, but it could have been more (…) Rating: ??? (out of four)” Roger Ebert: Chicago Sun-Times
“It’s astonishing that so much money, talent, technical expertise and visual imagination can be put in the service of something so stupid” Bob Graham: SFGATE
“Kudos to the writing and directing team of Larry and Andy Wachowski (…) for fashioning a brain-twisting, eye-popping thriller” David Hunter: The Hollywood Reporter
