The Munsters (2022)

Rob Zombie has pulled off creating a comedy hit with his version of The Munsters. Set somewhere between the late 20th and early the 21st centuries (judging from the soundtrack), it is a colorful, theatrical and hilarious prequel, counting on a veteran cast that can afford to have a heap of fun well knowing they will play their respective roles with ease and provide good comedy performances. They nail the gags to a tee, you will have no option but to burst out in laughter or at least a few giggles. With this movie we are given a feature film version of the classic sitcom that contains plenty of wit, color and includes a soundtrack that adds to the silliness in its contrast to the characters – yes, Herman is an alternative-punk-rock singer. Jeremy Daniel Phillips portrays a Herman that is just hilarious, with the character’s polite, self-conscious and naïve disposition; while Daniel Roebuck‘s funnily grouchy take on Grandpa Munster is quite deft. In fact, the whole cast is good in this film.

One can only envy the crew involved in the project, it must have been a blast to produce, and it shines through in the movie, which is part of its charm and appeal.
