The Noel Diary is a Christmas movie directed by Charles Shyer starring Justin Hartley and Barrett Doss.
He is a lonely, lovely, dashing man. He likes jazz, has an adorable pooch and has to clear out his childhood home and trauma. She is a smart, pretty woman, and a great singer who is in search of her birth mom. What are the chances that these two dainty souls will have a Christmas-themed fling-a-ling?
Premise
Jacob is a successful yet lonely novelist. Right up to Christmas he is contacted by the executor of the estate of his estranged mother, who informs him of her passing a week prior. Jacob will have to spend Christmas cleaning out his childhood home. Going through many of his mother’s belongings he will find a diary written by a someone unknown. A woman shows up at the house saying she is looking for her biological mother, and they strike up a conversation. Will the old diary unlock their pasts and hearts?
Movie Review
Christmas is here, yes it is. With it comes this movie, full of charm, feel-good atmospherics, and perfect lead characters. Both lonely, and carrying familial baggage, which they can commiserate over. What are the odds? Will the stars converge this Christmas and let magic happen? Will everything fall into place and their wounds heal? Well, we are not prone to dish out spoilers here, so we will leave it to you to find out.
With a formulaic screenplay, full of cozy moments, assisted by the seasonal scenography, and a heartwarming score, this feature brings us the traditional Christmas feel. The performances are good, the actors Justin Hartley and Barrett Doss make the most out of the roles they have been given. Kudos to them.
‘The Noel Diary’ does what it was meant to do, give us an easily digestible story, streamlined and formulaic, without too harsh dramas, and with just the right amount of sadness that can be healed with the Christmas spirit and love.
