Movie Review

First of all, let it be known, that I am an Amazon Prime subscriber, and that they don’t pay me to write this: when it comes to this platform’s productions, it is, along with HBO, the one that offers the best quality in movies and series. Granted it doesn’t produce as many as other platforms (not naming names), but everything it produces is of good quality, of cinematic quality at least, and, on many occasions, even outstanding.

‘Thirteen Lives’ is one of those good productions, which is effective in recounting the story in a way that engages the viewer, as Ron Howard can. In spite of rarely dazzling the critics, who at times look for that extra “something” in the stylistic approach and the originality of the storytelling, Howard knows how to put together a good movie.

It has a well structured and coherent narrative, and the fact is that the story is so dramatic in and by itself means that it doesn’t require any brouhaha effects, or high-concept styling. Ron Howard was the perfect director to portray this story of a rescue as excruciating as this one was.

Once again, applaud Prime Video’s decision in the selections, who on this occasion also hits the mark by having Viggo Mortensen (this guy is always good) and Colin Farrell who, despite some varying achievements, does from time to time remind us that he really knows how to act.

Our Opinion

It is a fine film that ultimately Ron Howard knows how to choreograph, with a close to journalistic approach, without unnecessary grand gestures nor embellishments.
