True Spirit is a Netflix movie directed by Sarah Spillane starring Teagan Croft and Anna Paquin.

If you don´t know this story of Jessica Watson, this is a great chance to find out about it and share with this girl the incredible life experiences in the style of The Life of Pi, but without a tiger or philosophy… and more of a family watching the live show.

This is a story that had it been told in another way, would have been epic and in this case it settles for being a faithful portrayal for all kinds of audiences that will (perhaps) be enjoyed by the average audience.

At least this is what it attempts to do.

About the Movie

This is a story that deserved to be told… perhaps in some other way. This is a movie that strives to be pleasant at all times and likeable for the less demanding audience, it is an adventure story which, epic or not, loses part of its value because of its television style treatment.

An adventure that deserved a better movie, one that could have taken us to the wilder part of the adventure. It is full of Hallmark smiles and relatives weeping in the distance, good intentions and easy formulas which doubtlessly do not do justice to this brave teenager.

Our Opinion

This story requiered more of an effort and settles for being little more than a tv movie.
