You People is the upcoming Netflix comedy starring Jonah Hill, Lauren London and Eddie Murphy. It is directed by Kenya Barris and written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill.

A movie about dialogues… which are terriffic. This movie bears the brand of its scriptwriters Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill who know how to make a rowdy comedy that is very rowdy and does not offend anyone… or offending people who take themselves a little too seriously.

This is a charming, amusing and intelligent comedy with dialogues that are daring, sophisticated (or not)… the first part.

About the Movie

This movie, which deep down is about what is politically correct that in You People, think that everything, really, is truly stupid. A delicious prank that mocks established things and what we have been told we should say in order to (quote as they say in the movie) to be “cool”.

This would have been the comedy of the year if the dialogues (which are great) had been matched by a structure and plot that were more complex.

Do you know what we are all a little fed up with and cannot talk about? This movie manages, as The Simpsons did years ago, to remove the tattoos by scraping “what is suitable”, politically correct and all those rules we silently consider to be stupid.

This is the good part: the statement, the “bad boy” part, which the movie is well worth watching. Its dialogues, acid humor, the truth in each one of its lines… until it falls and drowns in the territory, precisely, of romantic comedy and precisely there, does not manage to escape and become the irony it promised us in its statement.

This is a bitter-sweet comedy in this sense: very honest and funny, acid and even macabre, that dismembers any political dialogue of the “divide and conquer” type, in that way I will get all the votes; and also a comedy that does not rescue itself from the pits it falls into in its own critique.

Obviously, the movie rests on Jonah Hill who wrote the screenplay and stars in it, well paired by a genius of comedy such as Eddie Murphy, this time in the role of the father, and above all, a great Julia Louis-Dreyfus who is perfect in her role as a mother against all conventions with verbal darts.

Our Opinion

This is a movie that “lets go” in the dialogues and is “contained” in the structure of the script. Sometimes it is closer to a comedy with hilarious dialogues than a well built and rounded movie.

You will have a good time if you watch it, and if you don´t take it too seriously.
