Your Place or Mine is a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. You can see it on Netflix. It is written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna.
Two Hollywood stars in the same movie, attractive, one in his home in Manhattan, the other in her house in Los Angeles… we are approaching Valentine´s Day and we know that there are things that can be guessed at a mile away.
Even in this movie, ¡how ironic!
Movie Review
A short while ago we commented Breakfast at Tiffany´s, a classic, yes… well developed characters, legendary scenes… and based on a well-known novel by Truman Capote who it looks like he knew how to write.
In Your Place or Mine, this is definitely something else and this is not because times have changed (in the Sixties lots of serial films were made too). There are movies that want to go a step further and others, simply, are born with a expiry date and this movie´s is unfortunately, next Valentine´s Day.
This movie has everything going for it: Two very good actors doing their jobs in a very good and professional way; the two side-kick characters and the problems and simple jokes with the middle-age crisis and even shots of Brooklyn Bridge. A postcard and it works because these formula movies simply work and if you change a single thing in the magical formula, you run the serious risk of simply not being liked, and so the usual choice (also simply) is to not run risks and let two good actors do a great job in a good terrain: comedy.
Does it sound hackneyed? Absolutely, and I guess everyone in the team knew it, there is no way to hide this. Full of clichés? Almost just as much as Christmas.
Entertaining? You sit down, the good actors appear and, around thirty seconds later you don´t expect anything to happen beyond the usual.
A professional and efficient job done by the dream machine.
The machine, indeed.
