Movie Review

In good action-packed movie style this feature is sheer entertainment. The plot does not take center stage, hence as a viewer one doesn’t really care about why the main character does this or that.

It is not an original and innovative movie, and it certainly is not a movie that will challenge the rules of the genre, which it follows religiously, and its sole goal is to take us, the audience, from one quick conflict to another, at times dizzying. Pure staging, chases, fast frames, and many special effects…. the Russo brothers bring us a spectacle that is less sophisticated than what many might have expected. It is though, a movie that you can watch simply to be entertained for its duration, but it is superficial, and does not leave mark. However, on a more technical note, it is well put together in terms of filming quality, and of course, the great cast – who have already proven their talent in other movies and more dramatic roles.

Let’s continue being honest here, there is no way to shine as an actor in this particular movie, the characters are so predefined by clichés and that it hardly requires much versatility as a performer – other than the physical endurance.

Ryan Gosling in The Gray Man (2022)

The dialogue is laden with tough-guy retorts and remarks, which elevate the entertainment factor ever so slightly – in a Terminator syle “hasta la vista, baby”.

There is not much intricacy in the development of the plot nor its characters (which they could have squeezed much more narrative from), and it develops like some “romantic” dates do: let’s not waste our time on complicated preambles, cut to the chase and get some action.

After all, tomorrow will be another day, and we will go back to our quotidian humdrum, so just enjoy the couple of hours of diversion the movie has to offer, which will not require much thought, nor analysis. This production appeals more to our laid-back, popcorn munching side than to our inner brainy movie critic.
