Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has officially introduced the PlayStation®5 Pro (PS5®Pro) console, the newest addition to the PlayStation®5 (PS5®) family. This state-of-the-art hardware innovation is designed to elevate the gaming experience, offering gamers incredibly sharp image clarity, high frame rate gameplay, and advanced ray tracing capabilities. The PS5 Pro is set to launch on November, with a recommended retail price (RRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (including tax). The console comes equipped with a 2TB solid state drive and includes a DualSense wireless controller. In territories supporting the latest wireless standard, the PS5 Pro will also feature Wi-Fi 7.
The PS5 Pro allows the world’s top game developers to create enhanced gaming experiences by leveraging the console’s more powerful hardware and advanced system architecture. Delivering the most stunning visuals and performance ever seen on a PlayStation console, the PS5 Pro introduces several groundbreaking features, such as:
An upgraded GPU boasting 67 percent more Compute Units than the current PS5 model and 28 percent faster memory, which enables up to 45 percent quicker rendering for gameplay, ensuring games run smoother and faster.
Advanced Ray Tracing technology that enhances dynamic reflection and refraction of light at more than double the speed of the existing PS5 console.
AI-Driven Upscaling with PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, a machine learning-based technology that dramatically enhances image clarity by adding an exceptional amount of detail.
“We are extremely proud of the significant impact that the PS5 has had on the gaming industry, allowing game developers to bring their visions to life and reach millions of players worldwide,” said Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “However, we constantly strive to innovate in order to meet and hopefully surpass the evolving needs of our players. We are excited to offer the PS5 Pro alongside the current PS5 console this holiday season and look forward to the continued gameplay innovation from our talented developers, who will unlock the full potential of the PS5 hardware for many years to come.”
The PS5 Pro console maintains a familiar design that seamlessly integrates with the PlayStation 5 family of products. Additionally, it provides an option for players to add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, which is sold separately.
Games optimized for the PS5 Pro will carry a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” designation within their titles. Some of the blockbuster games that will feature this enhancement include titles from PlayStation Studios and SIE’s partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and many more.
All games playable on the PS5 console will be compatible with the PS5 Pro, utilizing the same user interface and online community for multiplayer gaming and network services. Other notable features include the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can be applied to over 8,500 backward compatible PlayStation®4 (PS4®) games playable on the PS5 Pro. This feature can stabilize or enhance the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available, improving resolution on select PS4 titles.
Current accessories available for the PS5 will also be compatible with the PS5 Pro, including the PlayStation®VR2, PlayStation Portal™ remote player, DualSense Edge™ wireless controller, Access™ controller, Pulse Elite™ wireless headset, and Pulse Explore™ wireless earbuds.
Launching just in time for the holiday shopping season, the PS5 Pro will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Pre-orders will begin on September 26, 2024.
