Sleeping Beauty - The Playhouse Theatre

This December the pantomime of your dreams arrives in Weston-super-Mare as the enchanting tale of Sleeping Beauty comes alive at The Playhouse theatre from Saturday 10 December.

This year’s pantomime stars BBC’s ‘Allo ‘Allo favourite Vicki Michelle as the Wicked Carabosse and Derek Moran from Channel 5’ Milkshake!

Whilst Vicki Michelle is most widely known for her TV roles including her iconic role Yvette Cart-Blanche in Allo Allo, she has also appeared in numerous other roles on screen and stage including Patricia Foster in Emmerdale, the neighbour in Noel’s House Party and Mrs Hannigan in the touring production of Annie. Vicki is of course no stranger to pantomime having performed in over 30 pantomimes over the years, including The Playhouse’s very own production of Snow White in 2009 as the Wicked Queen.

Following the success of last year’s pantomime, Children’s TV presenter and star of The Playhouse’s 2021 pantomime Jack and The Beanstalk, Derek Moran will be making a welcome return to Weston swapping the role of the heroic Jack for the villain Carabosse’s sidekick Herman the Henchman.

Derek who has also performed at The Playhouse regularly on the tour of Milkshake Live! Milkshake Monkey’s Musical says “I’m excited to be back in Weston-super-Mare again this year. This Panto will be bigger and better than ever before – we have an amazing script, magical sets and wonderful costumes. It really will be a jam-packed show, full of fun for all the family.”

Comedy comes in the perfect pantomime pairing of Michael Goble as the panto comic Jingles and Richard Alan as the traditional pantomime dame Nurse Nellie.

Of course Sleeping Beauty wouldn’t be complete without a Princess, and so joining the cast in the title role of Sleeping Beauty is Emily Day, who some of The Playhouse’s younger audience members may recognise as one of princesses from a recent tour of Pop Princesses.

The fairy will be performed by Collette Stewart, the Prince by Daniel Slade, and the King by Gareth Davies.

Mark Thompson, General Manager at The Playhouse said “This year’s pantomime has one aim, to make our audiences of all ages smile. We’re ensuring that our show really does have something for the youngest member of the family right up to the most life-experienced! Our cast are extremely talented, our sets are fantastic, the script is really entertaining, the songs are throughout the decades and if all that wasn’t enough… We have the most comfortable theatre seats in the South West! Join us this year, you won’t be disappointed”

Performances run from 10th December culminating in the final performance on New Year’s Eve, to end another year of entertainment at The Playhouse. Performance times include morning, afternoon and evening performances – a full breakdown can be found at www.theplayhouse.co.uk

So get ready to boo the baddy, cheer on the goody, and have a good old fashioned night of family entertainment. Welcome to the world of fairytales!
