About the documentary

The line between authority and abuse was crossed. The foundation was established in 1988, and parents themselves waived their parental rights. A 63-day journey through the Utah desert with real footage of the methods used and how these kids were subjected to nothing less than “Full Metal Jacket” style training.

“Hell Camp: Teen Nightmare” is a documentary that exposes the methods employed during this time and the Challenger Foundation, which practiced them and faced numerous complaints. But it didn’t end there; these military methods spread and multiplied. You know, an idea takes root and spreads on its own, and the success of these methods found its followers.

Today, Netflix brings us this controversial documentary with plenty of archival footage where we can see the camps of this foundation and, above all, experience firsthand the stories and testimonies of the teenagers who endured psychological and physical abuse.

Once again, it’s an opportunity to open our eyes to a world where not everything is rosy, not everything is good, and no matter how good the intentions may be, the methods can be, at the very least, questionable.

So be careful who you entrust your children to, especially if they promise to change.

Enjoy it.
