Lo que la verdad esconde: El caso Asunta (Operación Nenúfar) is a documentary directed by León Siminiani.

In a place called Teo, in Santiago de Compostela, a girl named Asunta, a Chinese adopted girl, is found murdered. She was twelve years old. Her parents were Rosario and Alfonso, two well-educated individuals from a respectable family.

“Lo que la verdad esconde: El caso Asunta (Operación Nenúfar)” is the story about Asunta’s murder and the investigations that led to the arrest of her parents.

It is a terrible crime, especially when the alleged culprits are discovered to be the girl’s own parents.

“Lo que la verdad esconde: El caso Asunta (Operación Nenúfar)” may not be the best true-crime you can watch on Netflix in terms of development, but the circumstances and media coverage surrounding the case, as well as the differing opinions during the trial, make it at least a chilling case.

A case that, like the Rosa Peral case, will give rise to a fictional series on Netflix that will reconstruct the events.

About the Documentary

Lo que la verdad esconde: Caso Asunta

A classic true-crime, like many others we can see, and like Netflix has been offering on its extensive TV lineup for a long time.

The case made headlines, and within hours, everyone knew about the news: national media outlets reported on it, and supposed journalists shared their opinions about the circumstances of the crime or the alleged culprit.

But there is more, and the documentary focuses on the police investigations and the fact that not everything is clear. Some claim it was a case with many investigative errors, where the culprit was presumed guilty from the start.

Then came the trial in the media: all the media outlets condemned her even before the trial.

A documentary that raises doubts and calls for mystery and, why not say it, is filled with television sensationalism, the kind that attracts so many viewers and leads Netflix to release one true-crime after another, once a week.

Our Opinion

“Lo que la verdad esconde: El caso Asunta (Operación Nenúfar)” is not the best, it is not the most intriguing case, but the morbid curiosity and the circumstances make it a fascinating case and a well-presented documentary that sticks to the facts…

To the delight of some viewers.

Enjoy it.
