High Tides is a Belgian series starring Pommelien Thijs, Willem De Schryver, and Eliyha Altena.

A thriller about wealthy kids, envy, unfaithful parents, and dysfunctional families during a summer where something is bound to happen from the very beginning.

Netflix brings us this mystery and suspense-filled thriller series composed of 10 chapters that deceives with its youthful and light appearance: it’s a series full of mystery, betrayals, and deceit with a cast of actors who, despite being unknown, are well-chosen.
It’s a series that will appeal to those looking for a well-executed, classic thriller, with surprises of course.

Synopsis

During a tension-filled summer on the Belgian coast, a group of affluent friends confronts the stark realities of adulthood while contending with love and the weight of societal expectations.

About the series

Technically well-executed. “High Tides” has good scenes, maintains a photographic tone, and follows a mature thriller TV direction, no resemblance to a Hallmark movie or similar: here the characters have depth and all hide secrets, and the plot gradually unfolds with small and balanced brushstrokes.

Aesthetically, it’s good, but it doesn’t stand out for it, as “High Tides” focuses more on the stories and secrets, on parent-child relationships, and on the plot rather than seeking excellence in images or trying to stand out for its stylistic innovations. It has a good script that knows how to be balanced and certainly please fans of these productions: it plays fair and knows where the limits of television storytelling are and how not to exceed them at any moment.

A series that, without standing out, does its job perfectly and entertains with a story of suspense, deceit, lies, betrayals, and of course, its content of dark romances.

It becomes more interesting when it delves into the relationships between parents and children, which is when the series truly makes sense. The triangle formed by its three main characters works, and so do its actors, who shape a story that, while not groundbreaking, knows how to entertain.

Our Opinion

Without completely escaping the ordinary summer suspense series, it gives us an entertaining and good thriller that will please the average viewer. However, it won’t be a series to remember.
