Hot Skull (2022) – A Netflix Miniseries – Linguistic Dystopia

Hot Skull (Sicak kafa) is a science-fiction miniseries created by Umur Turagay and Mert Baykal starring Hulya Koseoglu, Uzay Gökhan Irmak and Güney Coska.

A linguistic dystopia brought to us from Turkey, in which a semantic virus afflicts the world.

Premise

Murat finds himself alone, being the only person immune to the virus that has led to a pandemic, which afflicted thought, causing madness and spread via speech. He is on a quest to identify the secret to his immunity, his “hot skull”, which forces him outside the safe zone.

About the Series

Reminiscent of the 2008 movie adaptation of Saramago’s novel ‘Blindness’, we are given a portrayal of a wretched societal scenario in this mini-series that manages to approach sci-fi in a different way. You see, if you are not Steven Spielberg, you will not be granted the massive budget, and will have to recur to other “gimmicks” to pull the production off. In ‘Hot Skull” we are given an interesting cinematic view where Turkish movie industry ventures into new terrain, sci-fi.

If you are on the look out for sci-fi that is slightly different, without spectacular photography, and a more human approach, ‘Hot Skull’ might just be it.

Murat recalls his past in the 6th Zone. Convinced of Murat’s immunity, Şule introduces him to Plus 1 researchers. The blue pills provide a lead.

Anton searches for Murat and must confront Canan. Conflicts erupt within the Plus 1. Yasemin plays mind games with Murat. Fazıl decides to punish Canan.

Dawn broke, Hour hand died

Anton must fly under the radar, but Fazıl forces his hand. Özgür recounts the day of the fire. As Murat faces a moral dilemma, Viktor’s order arrives.

Fazıl detains Emel, Anton tries to contact Murat, and Şule must decrypt a message. Disturbed by his re-encounter with Haluk, Murat devises a risky plan.

Rose and Thorn

AEI tightens security. Murat and Şule try to prevent the attack. Murat negotiates with Fazıl. D-Day arrives for everyone, but Fazıl has his own agenda.

My name doesn’t matter

The explosion leads to a manhunt. Murat questions his connection to Haluk. After a tragedy, Murat makes a bold decision — and he won’t leave anyone behind.
