Narco-Saints- A Netflix Series

Veronica Loop
Narco-Saints (2022)

Narco-Saints is a South Korean production, directed by Yun Jong-bin, starring Park Hae-soo, Yoo Yeon-seok and Ha Jung-woo.

An account of exceptional real-life events concerning the international narco-trade, a humble business man who gets embroiled in it all, and ends up on a mission to take down the drug dealing king-pin who lives under the guise as the pastor of a local Korean church in an unspecified city in Suriname, we are guessing it is in Paramaribo.

Premise

A man travels to Suriname, and ends up becoming a drug dealer and devout parishioner. Things are not as they seem, and he is about to embark on epic mission.

About the Series

Entertaining, quite entertaining. Initially narrated in first person, it tells the outrageous story of a man who juggles working as a drug dealer and being a good parishioner in the local church.

Narco-Saints develops at a paced tempo, with a protagonist that is not devoid of sense of humor, and is amusing but resolute. The setting and the premise give way for a sardonic narrative, and this series makes good use of that.

Will it be a hit series? It is difficult to foresee, but it definitely has the elements required to become one, and in light of the recent South Korean movie and series hits (Squid Game, for instance) we are betting on it being a success.

It is not as good as Breaking Bad, but you can count on a series that has entertainment value and one that tells an interesting story quite different from what we have seen so far.

Release Date

September 09, 2022.
