When the Phone Rings” is a Korean TV series starring Yoo Yeon-seok and Chae Soo-bin.

A kidnapping attempt kicks off this unusual tale arriving on Netflix, blending romance, suspense, and comedy. From what we’ve seen, it features two unique main characters: a mute girl (Hong Hee-ju) who makes a living using sign language, and a presidential spokesperson (Baek Sa-eon) who can only be described as arrogant, superficial, and quite the jerk. The plot revolves around their arranged marriage, which comes with strict conditions: she cannot divorce him or reveal that she is his wife.

The Series Begins

The show starts off as a suspenseful drama but shifts to include comedic and romantic elements within half an hour. We quickly meet the characters and develop an affection for Hong Hee-ju, the vulnerable lead who tries on a wedding dress and has an overbearing and controlling mother. On the other hand, Baek Sa-eon initially comes across as highly unlikeable with his arrogance and pretentiousness. However, a few moments hint that his character might evolve in future episodes.

Netflix has only released the first episode of this series, which, despite its beginning, promises to unfold into a full-fledged romantic story. Enjoy watching.
