All the Light We Cannot See is a drama series created by Steven Knight, directed by Shawn Levy, and based on the novel by Anthony Doerr.
Prepare your hearts to beat to the rhythm of one of the most sentimental series you can watch on television. “All the Light We Cannot See” is a spectacular production set in the final days of World War II during the German occupation of Paris, in which a blind girl broadcasts a radio program and helps the French resistance win the war. Meanwhile, the Germans search for her, some driven by sentiment and others for different reasons.
The series showcases stunning imagery, such as the breathtaking aerial shots, and boasts solid execution and writing.
However, be warned if you’re not a fan of sentimental stories, because this series delves deeply into the realm of emotions.
Synopsis
Marie-Laure, a visually impaired teenager, and Werner, a German soldier, find their lives entwined amidst the ravages of World War II in occupied France. This poignant story delves into their individual struggles and quest for survival amid the chaos and destruction of the era.
About the series
It is a classic series that some viewers will undoubtedly adore, while others may find it difficult to endure for more than two minutes due to its slow pace and overtly melodramatic tendencies. It’s a heartwarming story in which all characters have secrets, a film about beauty, innocence, and acts of kindness that may overwhelm some viewers.
Is it a series that we personally enjoy? Not at all. But strictly speaking, beyond our personal tastes, “All the Light We Cannot See” has a lot to offer in terms of aesthetics and boasts excellent production values, including outstanding set design. As for the script, this character-driven adaptation won’t win any awards as the characters are clearly subservient to the overall message of the series (appealing to emotions at all times) and serve to shape the underlying literary background throughout.
Our opinion
An intriguing series that either does justice to or ruins its strong premise. It all depends on each viewer’s taste.
If you enjoy (very) sentimental stories, don’t miss it, as it will surely touch your heart if you let it.
