Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal is a documentary series directed by Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason about the powerful Murdaugh family and how they saw all their power come to grief after a boating accident.

After a successful first season that depicted the events surrounding the accident involving Paul Murdaugh, the second season will focus on the criminal trial faced by his father, Alex Murdaugh, who was accused of the murder of his wife, Maggie, and their own son, Paul.

About Season 1

The Murdaughs were – and still are – one of those powerful families in South Carolina. From parents to children, district attorneys to lawyers, their influence extended greatly within the community. . and within the legal system.

Paul Murdaugh was one of them, but he didn’t want to pursue a career in law and had a drinking problem, which was not ideal when operating a boat. That night in Archer’s Creek, Paul had consumed more than one beer, and one of the girls, Mallory, fell off the boat. His friends couldn’t save her from the treacherous current.

Paul evaded trial, but that was just the beginning. In 2021, Maggie and her son Paul were found shot to death. Alex Murdaugh was charged and convicted of the murder, unveiling some of Alex’s most turbulent secrets.

The Murdaugh family holds a prominent position in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. For nearly a century, three consecutive generations named Randolph Murdaugh served as circuit solicitor, the elected prosecuting attorney, for the state’s 14th judicial district. This familial succession of power led the locals to refer to the five-county district as “Murdaugh Country. The family’s legal influence traces back to Randolph Murdaugh Sr. who established the civil litigation firm that is now known as the Parker Law Group LLP in 1910, located in Hampton, South Carolina.
