About the Series
Entertaining, passable dialogues and some first scenes that, it must be said, are funny. The rest of it …you have to feel like getting into a light father-son comedy thing in which each one tries to impose their own style. There is a lot of role and a lot of character for the John Owen Wilson good guy, who also plays the “handsome guy” (because he can, of course) and who gets a role which is tailor-made for them, charming in a series that doesn’t want to break the mold at any point.
It always stays in the realm of “light comedy”, which (for once) we won’t criticize: it is a series for viewers who do not want to have to think too much and who aren’t looking for a complicated plot of stormy father-son conflicts.
It wants to entertain from its “cinematic middle class” viewpoint, and to amuse us, to serve as a bit of escapism, and to show us a father-son relationship about very intelligent people… adapted to the average viewer. It doesn’t do anything exceptional, it’s not transcendal, nor does it want to be. It fulfils its objectives, without meriting top marks for the effort.
