In this highly entertaining comedy set in Saudi Arabia, we are treated to all the elements of Guy Ritchie‘s distinctive style: criminals, corpses, a touch of comic relief, sharp dialogue, and absurd situations.
This Netflix release is a perfect opportunity to get lost in a film that we found incredibly amusing.
Storyline
The film tells the story of a love-struck chauffeur and a mechanic who mistakenly pick up a retired criminal. The two men are forced into a wild, life-changing adventure as they try to survive.
About the movie
“Head to Head” is funny, well-scripted, and features striking contrasts in its cinematography. The performances are commendable. If there is any criticism, it would be that the film closely resembles Guy Ritchie’s personal style, but “Head to Head” remains equally engaging, easy to digest, and above all, highly entertaining. It employs the same hooks and tropes that the English director is known for, but in the context of a dangerous city in Saudi Arabia.
As one can imagine, the screenplay blends screwball comedy with a mafia film, filled with jokes and characters who constantly teeter on the brink of stupidity. These characters are endearing, and they immerse us in the underworld for the film’s 90-minute duration.
The film feels short, leaving us wanting more.
Attention to detail is evident in the framing, photography, and screenplay. The fast-paced editing, witty dialogue, and extreme yet cinematic situations provide ample material for both the script and the director.
Our Opinion
If it didn’t resemble Guy Ritchie’s work as much and borrowed less from his style, we would be talking about a must-see film for cinema enthusiasts.
Nevertheless, “Head to Head” is highly entertaining and perfect for a hot August month.
This surprising release has undoubtedly managed to surprise us.
