Dangerous Liaisons is a romantic and provocative Netflix movie directed by Rachel Suissa. It stars Paola Locatelli, Simon Rérolle and Ella Pellegrini. It is based on the scandalous novel written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.
This is a contemporary adaptation of the spicy novel that goes by the same title, first published in 1782, although this time around it is set in the fabulous coastal town of Biarritz, France, where surf, summer, love, and betrayal will collude in scandalous ways.
Synopsis
Set in the exclusive coastal town of Biarritz, France, it is laden with ad-like surf scenes, clips of the Insta posts the characters write, rap music, and coolness galore.
Tristan, the cool surfing teen, tries to charm his way to the heart of the sweet and chaste, not to mention engaged, Célene. But, first things first, connecting on Insta.
Insta is in fact what conniving Vanessa is good at, being the ex-movie star turned influencer she is. Célene watch your back.
Intrigue, gossip, passion, and the irresistible attraction between Tristan and Célene. Will Tristan pop her cherry?
Review
The setting is great….I mean, come on, it is Biarritz!
I am sorry to say, though, that the tension that should have been built is not, thanks to the rather unconvincing production. The dubbing is quite a turn off, but can be forgiven, if you are looking for an easy to watch love story, with all the ingredients that entails.
A relatively superfluous attempt at adapting the novel, but it might work for some.
