Darlings is a 2022 comedy-drama movie directed by Jasmeet K. Reen starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shetty and Vijay Varma.
An Indian comedy-drama that is more dramatic than comedic during the first half, and in the second half takes a dark comedic turn.

Movie Review
‘Darlings’ is most definitely a drama, rather than a comedy. There is hardly anything funny about it, at least during the first half of this long feature film. It then takes a more dark humoristic turn, but you have to sit through that first hour. The movie ensures that the viewer gets a grasp of the difficult and horrid situation Badru (the protagonist) is in.
The production is good, it develops at paced tempo…..with good frames and sequences of city and neighborhood life.
It is especially the performances that are good. The cast is good. Bhatt and Shah are particularly versatile in this movie, as it goes from drama to a more stinging comedy.
It is backed by a score that follows the storyline, supporting the narrative development.
It is an interesting combination of drama, comedy and social-realism. A thought-provoking bet by Bollywood, in many aspects.
Our Opinion
If you are in the mood for a a two hour slowburn drama/comedy that tells a sordid story of domestic abuse, this might be of your liking. The performances are good, we especially liked Shah’s work, she brings authenticity to the story, with a convincing portrayal of the Badru’s (the protagonist) mother. The storyline develops well albeit, as mentioned, slowly.
