“The (Almost) Legends” (2023) Movie on Netflix. Review: A Comedy in ‘Technicolor’

The (Almost) Legends” is a comedy directed by Ricardo Castro Velazquez, starring Benny Emmanuel, Dagoberto Gama, and Silverio Palacios.

This comedy possesses a supreme virtue: it strives to be nothing mnore and nothing less than a comdey full of slapstick and deadpan comedy.

It does not hold back in what it makes fun of, from openly mocking bigamy, ridiculing the protagonist himself, the environment, the gastronomy, the culture, you name it

Technically, it counts on good photography, making good use of the colorful surroundings.

Movie Review

A well-produced film with a very distinctive cinematography that makes it clear from the start: it does not aim to go down in history as a masterpiece of comedy. Neither will its characters leave a lasting impact (and they know it), nor does its formula offer us anything new, but it manages to openly mock everything and do so with such absurd humor that, believe me, you will have no choice but to cave in, disconnect from the humdrum of life, and have a good laugh at the antics of this young man and his rally races.

This is not a film that will please everyone: if you are looking for elegant and sophisticated humor, this is not a number for you. There is no subplot, nor subtext, no irony nor sarcasm, let alone social commentary.

However, if you are just looking to have a good time with off-key concerts, silly car chases, and characters who have no choice but to laugh at death, this is one for you, you will have a great time.

A movie born to entertain rather than enthuse, but it does have the virtue of empathizing with the characters who seem destined to fail. It is possible to face life’s adversities with a smile – there is a comedic angle to everything.

Our Opinion

An unpretentious comedy, full of absurdity and created to simply entertain. We recommend it to the viewers who just need to disconnect from the stress of daily life, and have a laugh or two.
