‘Old Man’ – Movie Review

Old Man is a movie directed by Lucky McKee, starring Stephen Lang and Marc Senter.

Premise

Deep in the woods, a lost hiker stumbles upon the cabin of an erratic and reclusive old man. What starts off as cordial conversation soon turns dangerous as it becomes clear that one or both of them might be hiding a terrifying secret.

Movie Review

Given that the premise is based on the two protagonists being locked up in a cabin, the movie requires really good direction, really good performances and a very strong screenplay with really good dialogues.

This time round I will skip straight to “Our Opinion” and say that the the script is good, hence the good dialogues, albeit not excellent, and that the premise does not have that spectacular element in order to make for a really entertaining movie, which that lasts hour and half, and had us as viewers sigh and think, “it’s a bit boring with just two guys talking.” Unfortunately, that is the case with ‘Old Man’, which obviously saves the thriller as some big surprise that we will not say if it is revealed.

It is a movie that leaves us missing something that would justify the premise. That element of surprise, or an interesting turn that will make us feel it was worth our while to watch it.

Other than the magnificent performances, it does not offer us much suspense and does not go beyond being a classic thriller that drags on and on.

Perhaps, they tried to climb too high a mountain with this one.

Our Opinion

Magnificent performances in a movie that does not quite reach great heights.
