Slayers is a comedy directed by K. Asher Levin starring Abigail Breslin, Malin Akerman and Thomas Jane.
A funny satire about the social networks… spruced up by vampires.
Premise
A group of superstar influencers are drawn to a reclusive billionaire’s mansion only to find themselves trapped in the lair of an evil vampire. The only way out is to be saved by a famous online gamer and an old school vampire hunter.
About ‘Slayers’
This is a film that wanders through strupidity…. a bitter stupidity that might even seem intelligent. Very similar to Idiocracy (2006) it plays with sarcasm, the easy slapstick joke and the deliberate clichés that mock clichés. ‘Slayers’ is the perfect excuse to watch something that is of no transcendence, and simply have a good time while it lasts. The movie is quite well produced, and might deceive as it plays at being a B movie, when it isn’t.
Is it an homage to John Carpenter or does it borrow from him? Very much so!
It comes across as a silly movie, with a dialogue that funny and biting, full of ridiculous scenes, and a premise that is loaded with self-irony (it is clearly a parody). So this is a film for those who are not seeking neorealism, and simply want to sit back and chill.
Do not expect a movie that you will be captivated by, nor that you will remember, but it might be a good alternative if you are not up to the task of watching the news today.
The settings are good, clearly has good direction, its tempo is agile, modern and evidently has many takes with the social networking dynamics, followers sending digital hearts and all.
Our Opinion
A movie made for an audience that simply seeks a fun inconsequential pastime. It does not offend, provoke nor doe sit enamor.
