Thank You, I’m Sorry is a Swedish movie directed by Lisa Aschan starring Sanna Sundqvist and Charlotta Björck.

A charming Swedish comedy with a unique sense of humor that, touching on existential absurdity, will bring a couple of smiles to your face.

“Thank You, I’m Sorry” tells the story of two sisters who reunite during low (or very low) moments in their respective lives: one of them, pregnant, has just found her husband dead in bed (yes, literally dead), and the other has an insecure boyfriend.

About the Movie

A film with a lot of wit that, above all, knows how to find its own tone of humor and voice, different and singular. “Thank You, I’m Sorry” possesses an absurd, dark, or very dark sense of humor, always intelligent.

A movie that is worth it because it provides different approaches to humor, characters, and storytelling. Yes: it’s not what we are used to seeing because this drama turned into a comedy has a lot to say.

“Thank You, I’m Sorry” is a social, psychological, and collective analysis as well, an intelligent, fun movie that, in its apparently slow pace, has many layers and stories to tell. It knows how to flow through a well-structured script and stand out through its dialogues and set design.

Here, characters take precedence over aesthetic proposition, situations over photography, and the script over sophisticated framing.

A movie created for two great performances that require turning drama into comedy and comedy into drama, a difficult task that both Sanna Sundqvist and Sanna Sundqvist achieve perfectly: it feels like the movie could not have existed without them, and they know how to strike the right tone at all times, portraying those imperfect sisters.

But obviously, we liked Lisa Aschan the most, the director and screenwriter responsible for the project, who managed to create this completely different experience that never falls into tears. Neither into parody.

A profoundly intelligent movie.

Our Opinion

“Thank You, I’m Sorry” is a good film that skillfully blends genres without ever betraying them: like an encounter that simply manages to flow in this highly intelligent and touching comedy that makes intelligence in dialogues and situations its greatest asset.
