The King of Staten Island” is a movie directed by Judd Apatow starring Pete Davidson.

An autobiographical comedy about Pete Davidson’s life that, more than being a biopic, flows like a natural and simple story, shining in its performances not only by Davidson but also by outstanding supporting actors such as Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr, and Steve Buscemi.

Good dialogues, excellent performances in a biopic that, for once, doesn’t feel like a biopic and skillfully utilizes a solid script to create a remarkable comedy.

It’s the type of film that leaves you with a perpetual smile throughout, while also telling the story of a young man and his environment.

And yes, Davidson is fantastic in portraying himself in a movie about his own life, an opportunity not everyone gets.

And he makes the most of it.

Film Review

The King of Staten Island

A biopic that doesn’t function like a typical biopic revolving around the life and miracles of a single character: “The King of Staten Island” is more of an ensemble comedy that naturally unfolds through outstanding dialogues and authentic situations.

It’s a comedy that manages to be unforced and never seems contrived, aiming to offer us reality without the need to make life bitter, and it succeeds in making us laugh as if the situation were specifically designed for that purpose.

Yes, there is great work in the script.

On the cinematic side, don’t expect an artsy film: it focuses on the characters, the sequences, and the direction that appears seamless, as if the presence of a comedy specialist like Judd Apatow, who has directed the country’s top comedians, goes unnoticed. Now, he shines in this film for Pete Davidson.

A film for its protagonist in which not everything is rosy for him: the supporting actors stand out, and the film has the virtue of not solely focusing on the brilliant comedian. It gives space for everyone to develop characters that, revolving around the young man’s life, manage to develop their own personalities within the film and the story.

Our Opinion

Is “The King of Staten Island” a good film? Definitely yes, although it won’t be one that changes your life. It is natural and flawlessly flows through its splendid script and performances.
