“Wild Wild Punjab” is an Indian comedy directed by Simarpreet Singh starring Patralekhaa Paul, Sunny Singh and Varun Sharma.
If you were tickled by the zany antics of “The Hangover” (2009) featuring Bradley Cooper, where friends following a wild night in Vegas have no recollection of their outlandish adventures, “Wild Wild Punjab” is sure to capture your interest. The film, which shares a similar plot to The Hangover, albeit set in India and imbued with the distinct flavor of Bollywood, is a pure comedy designed to entertain – a goal it wholeheartedly achieves thanks to four brilliant performers who each play their parts to comedic perfection. And yes, the film does include fun musical numbers typical of Bollywood.
The storyline of “Wild Wild Punjab” revolves around four friends who embark on an intoxicating journey, which spirals out of control due to their excessive alcohol consumption. One of them ends up married in a strange place. The friends then spend the rest of the film trying to remedy the situation.
About the Film
“Wild Wild Punjab” is a no-strings-attached comedy, a pure entertainment drive with no other intention than to provide laughs. It is a gift for fans of comedies revolving around the silly exploits of intoxicated friends. It’s a Bollywood-style “road movie,” featuring comedic situations and four inspired actors. The narrative doesn’t demand too much – characters limited by their embarrassing predicaments and performances aiming only to make the audience laugh and lean into the humorous side of life.
The Mischievous Entertainers
Varun Sharma, a specialist in comedy and a fantastic supporting actor known for his comedic roles, shines in “Wild Wild Punjab”. We also have Sunny Singh, known for his good looks, charisma, and specialization in romantic comedies. Jassie Gill, another comedy specialist, has been seen in films like “Panga” (2020) or Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi (2018). The cast is rounded out by Ishita Raj Sharma and a hilarious Patralekhaa in the role of the surprise fiancée.
Our Opinion
Is it a film we’ve seen before? Certainly, but the formula continues to entertain. It works perfectly, laugh after laugh, and does not seem to get old. So, grab your popcorn, sit back, and prepare for a belly laugh, because “Wild Wild Punjab” is one rollercoaster of a comedy you do not want to miss!
