Miley Ray Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992, is an American actress and pop singer. She gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana. Cyrus recorded music for the soundtracks of Hannah Montana (2006) and Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus (2007), both released by Walt Disney Records. Her involvement in the Hannah Montana franchise established her as a popular figure among teenagers. In 2007, Cyrus signed with Hollywood Records to pursue a solo career. That same year, she embarked on the Best of Both Worlds Tour, where she performed as herself and as Hannah Montana. The tour was later adapted into a successful concert film titled Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert (2008).
In 2008, Cyrus released her second album, Breakout, which featured the hit track “7 Things. She also ventured into the world of film by lending her voice to the animated film Bolt. The following year, Cyrus starred in the feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie, which spawned the popular single “The Climb.
Cyrus further expanded her filmography by providing the voice for the character “Penny” in Bolt (2008). Her performance of the film’s theme song, “I Thought I Lost You,” earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. In addition, she reprised her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana in Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009). The film’s soundtrack introduced her to new audiences in the country and adult contemporary markets.
In 2009, Cyrus began to transition into a more mature image with the release of The Time of Our Lives, an extended play that showcased a mainstream pop sound. She also starred in The Last Song (2010), a coming-of-age drama film. The EP included Cyrus’s best-selling single, “Party in the U. . . (2009). Her studio album titled Can’t Be Tamed was released in 2010, featuring a new dance-pop sound. The music video and lyrics of the album’s lead single, “Can’t Be Tamed,” presented a more sexualized image for the entertainer. Cyrus was ranked thirteenth on Forbes’ 2010 Celebrity 100 list. Additionally, she was named the 64th hottest woman in the world on Maxim’s Hot 100 in April 2011, and the 89th sexiest woman in the world on FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World in May 2011.
