This week, The Beths – “one of the greatest indie-rock bands of their time” (Rolling Stone) – announce “Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe)”, out September 15th on Carpark Records, and present the new single, ‘I Told You That I Was Afraid (Acoustic)’.

‘Expert In A Dying Field (Deluxe)’ expands upon the brilliance of The Beths’ acclaimed 2022 album, “another collection of tunes that cements their status as one of the great guitar-pop bands of this present moment” (Stereogum), with three demos, two acoustic renditions, and the inclusion of previously shared standalone singles “A Real Thing” and “Watching The Credits.” The latter has already been deemed one of 2023’s best songs by Rolling Stone and Paste, who praised “Watching The Credits” as “a terrific, heat-seeking missile of glittering guitars and steadfast percussion work” that “speaks to how they endure as one of the most exciting rock bands in the world right now.”

Later this week, The Beths will take to the UK for a string of select festivals and headline dates. Shortly after, they will return to North America for a full, almost entirely sold out tour including dates supporting The National, Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service. The Beths will also headline three nights at Los Angeles’ Lodge Room (surrounding their sold out show at the Hollywood Bowl supporting Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service), plus three nights at New York’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. Full dates are listed below and tickets are on sale now.

Praise for The Beths & Expert In A Dying Field

“[‘Expert In A Dying Field’ is] a crushingly wistful account of an uncertain breakup, set to spry New Zealand jangle-pop.” The Guardian

“The Beths have always had a knack for making love’s cruel sting feel a bit softer, thanks to their stunning four-part harmonies, incisive lyrics, and catchy choruses. [‘Expert In A Dying Field’]…delivers on every level.”MTV News

“Elizabeth Stokes is desperate for some peace and quiet on ‘Silence Is Golden’ […] Antic percussion and squalling guitars mimic the anxiety induced by an avalanche of urban distractions, like sirens, jet planes and ‘6 a.m. construction’” The New York Times

“[Elizabeth Stokes] sounds brightly conversational but stretched to her limits over the band’s rough-and-rumble power-pop, though the exuberant climax reveals a breakthrough: acceptance that carrying these memories is part of living, not dying.”NPR, Best Songs of 2022

“Trading in their last scraps of punk to hone their newfound instincts for lean, clean power-pop, the band turns the painful clarity of post-breakup anguish into one addictive headrush after another.” Pitchfork, The 50 Best Albums of 2022

“[Expert In A Dying Field] shows a return to the uptempo, adrenaline-inducing power-pop hooks that made their 2018 debut, Future Me Hates Me, so beloved […] remind[ing] us why they’re one of the greatest indie-rock bands of their time”Rolling Stone, The 100 Best Albums of 2022

“[T]he Beths aren’t interested in wallowing. Quite the opposite: They get through it with wit, self-awareness, and effusive, sugar-rushing melodies.”Stereogum, The 50 Best Albums of 2022
