The second season of the comedy series “OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH” is set to premiere on Max with three episodes on Thursday, October 5. Created and showrun by David Jenkins, the show is executive produced by Taika Waititi and Garrett Basch. The season follows the loosely based true adventures of Stede Bonnet, an 18th-century would-be pirate played by Rhys Darby. Bonnet trades his gentlemanly life for that of a swashbuckling buccaneer and becomes the captain of the pirate ship Revenge. However, he struggles to earn the respect of his crew, potentially leading to mutiny. Bonnet’s fortunes take a turn when he crosses paths with Captain Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi. Surprisingly, the two vastly different pirates find more than friendship on the high seas; they find love. Now, they must navigate their relationship and survive in a dangerous world. The second season features a returning cast including Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon, and Leslie Jones. Additionally, new cast members include Ruibo Qian, Madeleine Sami, Anapela Polataivao, Erroll Shand, Minnie Driver, and Bronson Pinchot. The show is executive produced by Taika Waititi and David Jenkins, with Jenkins also directing the first two episodes of the season. Filming took place in Auckland, New Zealand.
