“Survival of the Thickest” is Netflix‘s new comedy for this July. Starring Michelle Buteau. With Anissa Felix India, Tasha Smith, Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, and Tone Bell.
Michelle Buteau shines in “Survival of the Thickest”, Netflix’s new comedy about a woman who has a lot to offer: lots of curves, lots of problems to solve, and lots of talent as well.
Mavis Beaumont has a bright future, a boyfriend who adores her, and lives in the city of the world. . until that boyfriend cheats on her, she is forced into a tiny apartment, and has to rebuild her life. . as best she can.
A new comedy about rebuilding life, with a touch of drama, is skillfully carried by the brilliant Michelle Buteau, who manages to captivate the audience with a romantic comedy protagonist who, deep down, has nothing to do with the stereotype.
The first season consists of eight episodes that hold their own, just like the protagonist, and maintain a good balance between development, well-executed situations, and well-developed supporting characters.
“Survival of the Thickest” is an urban comedy, one of many we have seen set in the same city. It doesn’t get tiresome, especially when irony is played with and this formula turns stereotypes on their head, creating a new formula that, without resorting to satire or revolutionizing the genre, manages to bring a few smiles to our faces.
Netflix offers us a series about imperfection and realism that successfully maintains a delicate balance between the dramatic and the satirical, never falling into either extreme.
It’s a great concept that wouldn’t have made sense without the wonderful Michelle Buteau.
