Between 2005 and 2010, the Florida Gators were the star team in the national collegiate football league. Led by a coach who worked magic, this team became a winning machine.
However, everything vanished. This is the story of Urban Meyer and how he transformed the Florida Gators into an almost military-like team, ultra-disciplined and pushing the boundaries of competitiveness. Urban Meyer pushed these players to the extreme of competition, pushing them beyond their limits.
Urban Meyer brought an open offense and a new concept from Utah, surpassing the deceptive play strategies they had practiced until then. Together with offensive coordinator Dan Mullen, they moved away from traditional attacks where the quarterback simply stayed back and passed the ball. Instead, they threatened the opposing team from various fronts, launching a total attack that required defending the entire field.
The Southeastern Conference was known for its defensive strategies, and no one expected Meyer and Mullen’s new offense. They had to find a new quarterback, Tim Tebow, and during the game against Tennessee (21-20), they realized that winning the National Championship was possible, an achievement that had only happened once in 100 years of history.
