Troll is a Norwegian-American action-fantasy movie directed by Roar Uthaug starring Ine Marie Wilmann and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen.

By the way, it has more references to Jurassic Park than it does to (due to the obvious similarities) the giant in Tokyo. An adventure of the sort that entertains, and does not seek to provide more than that.

If you thought that trolls were just cute, almost harmless people leaving malicious comments on the internet, you were wrong.

Is it Godzilla? King Kong? There is a new guy in town: Troll!

Premise

A paleontologist must assist in subduing and capturing a gigantic creature that has awoken in the mountain range of Dovre. This creature is running amok, destroying everything in its path, and is headed towards Oslo, the capital city of Norway. Was there some truth to Norwegian folklore, after all?

Movie Review

This is an entertaining number, but not a blockbuster. In this Norwegian-American production that counts on the best of both sides of the pond: a sense of spectacle from one side, and some equilibrium provided by the European counterparts, which allows its characters to develop along with the story (ever so slightly) and justifies (as many as it can) certain situations.

However, movies in this genre peak with the scenes of action and destruction, and we have seen more spectacular films (see Godzilla vs. Kong), which is what fans of this genre seek in these features.

Troll (2022)

For those of us who do not have the Godzilla poster on our bedroom wall, ‘Troll’ will remain as yet another movie about monsters, and will not leave a greater impression on us. It does though stay true to the genre with its fast pace and good rhythm, as well as good special effects, but as a story it does not really bring us anything new – it sticks to what was invented back in the heyday of mega monsters on film, the 1930’s.

Warning: this is not a movie that will be to the liking of many a viewer.

Our Opinion

A decent movie in terms of production, but as a story there is not much novelty.
