Raymond Pettibon: New Prints. Launching June 15. David Zwirner Online

David Zwirner is pleased to announce an online presentation of two brand-new limited-edition lithographs by Raymond Pettibon, featuring the artist’s iconic wave and heart imagery, published by Utopia Editions, David Zwirner’s fine art print publisher established in 2021. The prints will launch on Wednesday, June 15, at 10 AM EDT as part of an exclusive presentation, titled Raymond Pettibon: New Prints, on davidzwirner.com.

In his influential oeuvre, Pettibon combines image and text to reinforce the visual and critical potential of drawing. These two new works feature the artist’s signature mark making paired with his characteristically wry, satirical handwritten text.

No Title (Our Secret Spot.) (2022) is part of an ongoing series of drawings, paintings, and prints depicting surfers and waves that allude to the sublime proto-abstract seascapes of J. M. W. Turner. This newest work harkens back to the bold graphic marks of Pettibon’s earliest waves, made in the 1980s.

Another recurring motif within the artist’s oeuvre, the heart, is seen in the second print. Pettibon figuratively depicts the spectrum of human emotion and the dichotomy between the brain and the heart. No Title (He doesn’t really…) (2022) is personal and metaphoric at once.

This online presentation of new prints coincides with the release of Point Break: Raymond Pettibon, Surfers and Waves by David Zwirner Books, which features texts by Jamie Brisick and Brian Lukacher and contributions by Emily Erickson and Stephanie Gilmore.
