Panasonic opens future gazing UK customer Experience Centre

0

Panasonic Business has opened the doors to its new Customer Experience Centre in Bracknell, showcasing its range of cutting edge B2B solutions both physically and virtually.

Situated at the new UK headquarters on Western Road, Bracknell, the Customer Experience Centre is experienced as two zones. The first is an immersive 270 degree interactive presentation space, built around eight separate virtual vertical environments, and a demonstration space that allows customers to get hands-on with the latest Panasonic technology. The showcase delivers a ‘blank canvas’ for innovation, designed to spark conversations around how Panasonic can solve business technology challenges.

Featuring AV design and integration by Sysco Productions, concept development by AB Creative, and content and physical build by Hart Wilcox, the Customer Experience Centre features over 100 items of technology, with the presentation space squeezing an impressive nine laser projectors in to just 50m2 in order to achieve a fully immersive feel.

Powered by two disguise 4x4pro media servers, the customer’s name is skillfully integrated in to the content in real time, to personalise the experience.

“By quietly and reliably powering their capability our technology frees businesses to perform to their maximum,” says Simon Grantham, Managing Director of Panasonic UK on opening the Centre. “The new Customer Experience Centre provides a platform upon which we can work with our customers to solve their daily business challenges.”

The Centre focuses on five main topics:

• Retail technology
• Rugged computing
• Audio Visual solutions
• Communications Solutions
• Next generation surveillance technology

Among other things, the Experience Centre features the latest in Panasonic retail technology, including digital signage displays, electronic price tags and automatic stock monitoring, which uses CCTV analytics to detect low and no stock on shelves. In addition, a fully demonstrable lecture capture system automatically tracks a presenter, giving universities the ability to automate the recording of teaching sessions.

All visitors are handed a 5” Android™ Toughbook rugged handheld on which a dedicated app allows them to select content of interest, ranging from white papers to brochures and introductory videos, via cleverly integrated NFC tags throughout the experience centre. These case studies are then emailed to the customer for follow-up, back in their office.

A smart security section features the latest in modern analytics software. A range of indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras are equipped with an upgraded facial recognition platform which features a ‘deep learning’ core engine that has ranked as the industry’s most accurate in independent testing by NIST. The Face Server can identify faces that are difficult to recognise using conventional technology, including those partially hidden by sunglasses and face masks.

A range of Toughbook rugged notebooks and tablets is also on show, with a rugged resistance test station, which allows water ingress, drop and impact testing of the range.

“We are bringing the latest technology for retail, transport, logistics and entertainment in one place. We hope to immerse visitors into our Panasonic world, inspire their creativity and ultimately prove our solutions can strengthen their business in an increasingly competitive landscape,” added Simon Grantham.

The Customer Experience Centre is built around a newly launched B2B brand proposition ‘Freedom through innovation’, which is the belief that the future is about better connected technology. That businesses will succeed if they can simply focus on their customers, in the knowledge that the technology solution delivering their capabilities just works. And works together.

Climax (2018): Atrevida y Sorprendente

4

‘The Exorcist’ (1973) Movie Review

0

William Friedkin directed The Exorcist in 1973, a classic horror film starring Linda Blair and Max von Sydow.

A masterpiece of horror

El Exorcista (1973)
The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist was the movie that haunted many and that they will remember forever. The scenes, for their time, were brutal and caused more than one faint in theaters. A great work that started a whole cycle of exorcism movies.

It has become, on its own merits, a cinema classic.

Time flies…

Story of a Possession

Based on a true story (yes, believe it or not, it happened in Washington in 1949), The Exorcist tells the story of Regan, a girl who is supposedly possessed by something evil (the Devil himself, no less). The girl has strange symptoms (it won’t surprise anyone at this point: she speaks Hebrew, she spits blood… those little things that the rest of us only do with a couple of drinks too many, and the girl seemed to have no problem with the booze.

Worried about the situation, her mother decides to give her all kinds of check-ups until she has no choice but, fictitious or not, to submit her to an exorcism so that the girl will feel a little better.

El Exorcista (1973)
The Exorcist (1973)

The Movie

A true masterpiece of suspense, a classic work that any director should know by heart for its rhythm, script, and editing (yes, when you have the novelist himself as the screenwriter things go smoothly). William Friedkin (who remained active until 2017, no less) shines in his best film, a work that will be remembered as the one which set the standards for horror films for years.

A certain aspect I’d like to comment on: it’s also a classic film in terms of pacing and its narrative formulas. It doesn’t rush when introducing the characters, it gives us different points of view of the conflict and saves the best for last (nowadays they would have done it quite differently). It’s a film for a special audience, perhaps for viewers less prone to ‘gore’ stuff, it takes us exactly where it wants to… and we’re happy to go along with it…

Our Opinion

Rhythmically, it’s still one of the best horror films ever made.

Great script.

Well performed.

As for the music score, since it has become a standard of horror themes, we need not say anything else.

So… We have a classic here.

Five stars (not four or one: five).

‘Angel Heart’ (1987). Movie Review

0
Angel Heart (1987)
Angel Heart (1987)

Alan Parker directs Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro in Angel Heart, an 80”s horror movie… very demonic.

By the way, this genre is called elevated horror (which I would define as horror movies that aren’t a disaster).

It’s based on a novel by William Hjortsberg.

Angel Heart is one of those movies that we remember despite the passage of time. A classic film that when it was released was a revolutionary work, at least as far as I recall. One of those features that they wouldn’t let us rent because they made us… lose faith. We were young, and so impressionable.

With lots of classic film noir touches. We really love Alan Parker (Mississippi Burning).

Plot: A touch of Philip Marlow… but with a special client

Harry Angel is hired by a mysterious egg-eating character played by Robert De Niro to find someone. His investigation will lead him into the swampy realms of heroin, black magic, voodoo and… a few other mysteries.

El Corazón del Ángel (1987)
Angel Heart (1987)

The Movie

This is one of those films from the eighties that without being a marvel in its day (nowadays it would have been a runner up for an Oscar). It will be remembered because it features Robert De Niro playing that mysterious character that we can’t mention at the risk as doing so would be a spoiler

Angel Heart (1987)

Our Opinion

A risky and enjoyable film which, for sure, you will love watching again as I did.

With The Wrestler, he earned an Oscar nomination.

Robert De Niro

Other Reviews

Smashing-looking production design by Brian Morris and beautiful, moody camera work (…) [Mr. Parker] is a very able technician who needs a good screenplay, which is what’s missing here. In its bits and pieces, ‘Angel Heart’ looks a lot better than it does when endured.

Death Race 2050: cutre, simpática y sesentera

3
Death Race 2050
Death Race 2050

Leonardo DiCaprio: From Teen Heartthrob to Environmental Activist

0

Leonardo DiCaprio is a renowned American actor and film producer. He has appeared in numerous successful movies including “Titanic”, “The Wolf of Wall Street”, and “The Revenant”, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. DiCaprio is also known for his environmental activism and philanthropy work. He has been nominated for six Academy Awards and has received several other accolades throughout his career.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Leonardo DiCaprio was born on November 11, 1974 in Los Angeles, California. He began his acting career by appearing in television commercials as a child. In 1990, he got his big break when he was cast in the sitcom Growing Pains, playing Luke Brower, a homeless boy taken in by the Seaver family.

DiCaprio’s film career took off in the early 1990s with roles in Critters 3, This Boy’s Life, and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. His performance as Arnie Grape in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 19. He quickly became one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood.

In 1996, DiCaprio starred as Romeo Montague in Baz Luhrmann’s modernized adaptation of Romeo + Juliet alongside Claire Danes. His performance generated a tremendous response from audiences and critics alike, cementing his status as a rapidly rising star in Hollywood.

Breakthrough with Titanic

Leonardo DiCaprio’s breakthrough role came in 1997 when he was cast in James Cameron’s Titanic. The epic romance-disaster film became the highest-grossing film of all time and launched DiCaprio into mega stardom.

Playing Jack Dawson, a penniless young artist who wins a ticket on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, DiCaprio experienced a meteoric rise to fame. His on-screen chemistry with co-star Kate Winslet and charismatic performance made him an instant heartthrob and international celebrity.

Titanic gave him his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor at just 23 years old. Though he did not win, the global popularity explosion cemented his status as a leading man. Pop culture buzz referred to him as “Leo-Mania” with his face appearing everywhere on posters, magazines and merchandise. For many, DiCaprio embodied the perfect combination of talent, intellect, charm and good looks.

While some criticized his sudden fame, DiCaprio proved his dramatic skills and range could match his pin-up appeal. His ability to draw massive box office results demonstrated extraordinary star power that would make him a top box office draw throughout his career. Titanic undoubtedly provided the breakthrough that allowed DiCaprio to become one of the most famous actors of his generation.

Collaboration with Scorsese

Leonardo DiCaprio’s creative partnership with director Martin Scorsese has spanned decades and produced some of the actor’s most iconic work. After Titanic launched DiCaprio to superstardom, he was determined to shed his heartthrob image by taking on grittier, more complex roles.

Scorsese offered DiCaprio the opportunity he was looking for with 2002’s Gangs of New York. Though the film itself received mixed reviews, DiCaprio earned praise for his committed portrayal of a young man out for vengeance in 1860s New York. This marked the beginning of an actor-director pairing that would shape the next phase of DiCaprio’s career.

Their next collaboration, 2004’s The Aviator, cemented DiCaprio as a serious dramatic actor. His role as Howard Hughes earned DiCaprio his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. The film was a critical and commercial success, with DiCaprio receiving acclaim for capturing the eccentric billionaire’s descent into obsessive compulsive disorder.

In 2006, Scorsese and DiCaprio teamed up for the crime thriller The Departed. DiCaprio displayed his impressive range as an undercover cop infiltrating the Boston mob. The film was a box office smash and won Scorsese his first Academy Award for Best Director. DiCaprio himself earned his third Oscar nomination.

DiCaprio has said he owes his evolution as an actor to Scorsese, noting “I really kind of grew up in this industry thanks to Marty.” Their collaboration has allowed DiCaprio to consistently take on bold, intense roles that showcase his commitment to his craft. Though the two have not always achieved awards success, their joint projects have been major critical and commercial hits. DiCaprio and Scorsese remain one of the most dynamic partnerships in Hollywood.

Environmental Activism

Leonardo DiCaprio has been a prominent advocate for environmental causes, especially fighting climate change, for over two decades. He cares deeply about protecting the planet and regularly uses his fame to raise awareness about threats to the environment.

DiCaprio’s environmental activism began in earnest in 1998 when he established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which provides grants and campaign support to numerous organizations involved in conservation and sustainability. Through his foundation and personal outreach, DiCaprio has brought visibility to critical issues like rainforest protection, renewable energy, and the impact of climate change.

In particular, DiCaprio has focused his climate change advocacy on reducing carbon emissions and transitioning the world to clean energy. He has worked closely with organizations like the Natural Resources Defense Council, Global Green USA, and the Sierra Club to lobby world leaders and influencers on the urgency of addressing climate change. DiCaprio has even addressed the United Nations directly, appealing for aggressive climate action at multiple UN summits and conferences.

Beyond his political and philanthropic efforts, DiCaprio has used his fame and social media presence to spread awareness about climate change to the broader public. He produces and narrates documentaries on environmental threats, including Before the Flood, which details the dangers of climate change. DiCaprio also advocates for climate-friendly lifestyle changes among his followers and fans across the world. Through tireless activism spanning decades, DiCaprio has established himself as one of the world’s most recognizable and influential voices on protecting the environment.

The Revenant and First Oscar

After over twenty years in the business and five previous nominations, Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his first Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Hugh Glass in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s The Revenant. DiCaprio went to extraordinary lengths for the role, including eating raw bison liver on camera and sleeping in animal carcasses. He also insisted on only natural lighting to portray the harsh wilderness, meaning the crew could only film at “magic hour” dusk each day.

The grueling shoot took a toll on the cast and crew, who endured freezing temperatures and difficult filming conditions. But their efforts resulted in a visually stunning film that critics praised as a masterpiece. DiCaprio’s intense and visceral performance silenced those who claimed he didn’t have the versatility for more gritty roles. He blew away the competition and cemented his position as one of the all-time greats with the Oscar win. DiCaprio received a standing ovation when his name was announced as Best Actor, capping an illustrious career with the one major award that had eluded him for so long.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Leonardo DiCaprio delivered an exhilarating and controversial performance in Martin Scorsese’s 2013 financial crime dark comedy The Wolf of Wall Street. Based on the memoir by former stockbroker Jordan Belfort, the film depicts Belfort’s rise to power heading corrupt brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, which engaged in securities fraud and money laundering in the 1990s.

DiCaprio’s portrayal of Belfort was both praised and criticized for glorifying and reveling in the excessive lifestyle, drug abuse, and criminal behavior depicted. But the actor gave an electrifying, risk-taking performance that anchored the 3-hour frenetic farce. DiCaprio fully immersed himself in the character’s arrogance, charisma, and showy excesses. He fearlessly leaned into the raunchy, hedonistic antics while also revealing Belfort’s insatiable appetite for power and money. The performance showcased DiCaprio’s remarkable range and cemented his status as one of Hollywood’s top actors.

Though divisive, DiCaprio’s turn in Wolf of Wall Street earned him Best Actor nominations at the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild Awards. He demonstrated his willingness to make bold choices in his collaborations with Scorsese and risk audience alienation to create a memorable, larger-than-life character. DiCaprio added another acclaimed performance with depth and complexity to his filmography.

Though his status as a Hollywood superstar keeps him constantly in the public eye, DiCaprio has managed to maintain an air of mystery around his off-screen life. While often spotted with different model companions over the years, he rarely walks red carpets with anyone besides his parents.
