Re/Member (Karada Sagashi) is a horror movie directed by Eiichirô Hasumi starring Kanna Hashimoto, Gordon Maeda and Maika Yamamoto among. It is based on the manga by Katsutoshi Murase and Welzard.

Re/Member is a Japanese scary movie… Japanese fashion with all the elements of recent “scary” movie successes and some extra ones extracted from the most classic Hollywood ones.

Ringu was a success because it was a novelty, Re/Member does not have much chances in standing out, precisely because of its “originality” or lack of it.

It does offer horror movie fans a little more of what they expect in this guilty sin.

Storyline

In order to break a curse, six students in a strange space/time will need to restore the balance in Sofia, a child that was murdered years ago and whom they wish to avenge.

Movie Review

A movie about ghosts and apparitions that is well made and which “borrows” ideas from other movies (nothing wrong with this, culture is based in re-doing ideas over and over again).

The problema: this movie settles for being a classic movie about ghosts and apparitions and from a viewer´s level, it might be digging in a terrain that is too exploited by now and does not offer anything new, we find this movie with too much premeditation, with scenes we have already seen too many times, and, of course the “scariness” loses a great part of its effectiveness.

Technically, it is not too bad, although this is to be expected as it is a movie with a moderate budget and is a co-production between Warner and Netflix.

There are moments that, once we have seen the ghost, and other classics of the genre, like the chainsaw, the thing becomes very un-scary and ends up being a horror film for teens without much ambition film-wise.

Our Opinion

Decent, just about. Entertainment for lovers of this genre who seek a comfortable movie in which we know what to expect, how and why.

Storyline

Six high schoolers stuck in a murderous time loop must find the scattered remains of an unknown victim to break the curse and finally see another day.
