Bendana | Pinel Art Contemporain is pleased to present « “intermezzi” peintures sculptures », the second solo exhibition of Alberto Cont at the gallery.

The term «intermezzi» evokes the idea of passage. Just as in music, the intermezzo allows the transition from one act to another by announcing the tones, in painting on canvas, what lies in front screens and announces what lies behind and was already there before, that something you already manage to imagine and perceive….

Alberto Cont explores light and color, a reflection also present in this sculptures which petrify his pictorial gesture in glazed stoneware.

Most of the paintings exhibited were realized in the artist’s Italian studio, located not far from the same Venetian premises where Giorgione lived and worked, and which represent the cradle of «tonal» painting of the Cinquecento.

With this series of works, whose true protagonist is color, Cont returns to the tradition of Venetian tonal painting, in which the application of superimposed glazes achieves a soft plastic effect and a fusion between subjects and environment. Thanks to layers of color and transparency applied in successive stages, the artist creates a gradual transition from one tone to another, suggesting the depth of space through variations in successive colors.

Transparencies produce sensations of movement and effects of impalpable matter, and light-soaked canvas, sensations of atmospheric luminosity.

Color becomes an element that constructs volume and space.
